What I really find shocking though is the fact that $20 billion could be alleged to be 'missing' and the government seems to be scarcely alarmed!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08353986868645263672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8915156192126724174.post-61675150822242127412014-02-27T15:47:05.367-08:002014-02-27T15:47:05.367-08:00Well said Muktar. Its unfortunate that the issue of unremitted funds is just coming to light now but given that the NNPC is hardly audited, one can only imagine how bad the situation has been. While SLS is a very good banker, I believe by politicising the office of the Governor of CBN, he left himself open to what has just happened. Sadly Nigeria is a country where the laws are only in place to serve those in power or their associates. It was well researche...Excellent Muktar I must say. It was well researched and thoroughly written and addressed most of the problems in Nigeria. For example your argument and for and against the implementation of fuel subsidy was very sound and the impact it will have on ordinary Nigerians is the case.

However, the problem I have with the article is the solution you proposed. I want to point to a fact you made, when you made comparisons to the revolutions in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia. But a fact you didn't mention is that those countries were doing far better than Nigeria and their presidents will not be cowed by western powers.

They still had control over their refineries, and the west were never happy about this, hence the massive media coverage of the revolutions all over the world to encourage the end of the various governments as mentioned. This I believe contributed to the removal of Ben Ali, Mubarak and Ghaddafi.

If ordinary Nigerians take to the streets to remove the government, I not think that would solve the problem but escalate it. We can see already see the problems in Egypt.

A possible solution is maybe if fuel finishes in Nigeria, maybe the west will leave us alone. Nigeria was doing very well before we discover oil, and I believe we will do better without it.

Just to conclude here, I have not done my research just as you and have written this after reading your article, but I think the removal of government in Nigeria will do more harm than good. If the government can reduce the amount of salary they earn, claw back the monies paid out to contractors for the repair of our refineries as you suggested, and reduce the level of corruption, then Nigeria might just be saved.Kenedian 3005https://www.blogger.com/profile/04815593599809192838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8915156192126724174.post-64526382358167932792012-01-07T19:43:31.051-08:002012-01-07T19:43:31.051-08:00Excellent article masha Allah.
